So where shall I start? Well my good friend King and I left to Durban on Friday afternoon (04/03/2011). We arrived in Durban at around 17:30. I drove directly to the venue where we were to wait in the line. The plan was to check out the place to see how things were gonna go down and thereafter come back at 23:00. To our surprise there were already 4 people there but they also didn't know where to line up. Anxiety kicked in and my emotions told me I had to line up then and there. It was only 18:00 and I was deciding to line up! Although we had to get something to eat since we hadn't eaten since lunch and it was gonna be a long night.

So the people that were there decided to assign numbers to each of us for a place holder while we went to get food.(My number: 5). So we left Moses Mahbida Stadium and went to Sun Coast Casino for something to eat.... Mimmo's pizza was the choice and definitely take-away! We had to get back to the line asap but we couldn't rush the pizza ovens! We got back to the stadium at around 7 and was back in the line. Our car was parked on the other side of the stadium, so we had to walk crazy far. This time there were probably around 10 people in the line.. We then found out that they closed the stadium and no one was allowed in or out after 19:00. They were gonna open the gates for people to line up at 4am on Saturday. Relieved that we were inside and that we would be first in line, I started to calm down. Time stared to slow down as we sat on the floor doing nothing at all but chat or sing...

Around 23:00 we pulled out the sleeping bags and started to attempt to sleep. King fell asleep and had slept all the way till 3:30am Saturday but I couldn't get to sleep. I think I only slept for 30min that night.... At 4am the stadium gates opened and people started to flock in... They earliest contestant was bragging to the
others behind him that he had been outside the gate lined up around 23:00. We just laughed.... Watching the sun rise is beautiful but can really make you feel like a vampire if you didn't sleep the previous night..

Around 10am is when we started to walk into the stadium with all the cameras viewing us from every angle. At this time there were maybe 1000 contestants. We all started to fill up the stands in the stadium and got a quick briefing from the director of the show.. We did the normal tv stuff and an hour later.
The first line started to make its way to registration... This first line, was my line... We got registered and made our way to to a seat quickly after to the pre-lim round. King had to wait outside for this one... Got into the
pre-lim waiting room and you couldn't cut the tension in the air with a knife, you would need something more like a chain saw! We were put in groups of 10 and this was the 10 that were there since 18:00 Friday. So we grew as close as people can grow in that amount of time. I entered the pre-lim room greeted the 6 of 7 people that were in the room to watch.. Started to sing and the acoustics in the room were awesome! The acoustics got me excited! After I was done I had to comment on the acoustics which made the pre-lim judges laugh.

Time for the results. We made our way to the results room where only myself and "Sky" (Guy in my group) were called to stay behind.....

Now to a new waiting room were King and I met up again and celebrated for the pre-lim!! The wait there was quite a long one. The show was sponsored by Samsung and I got to play with the Galaxy Tab, an awesome toy which had a guitar app! Anyways, time for the directors cut.... We were put into new groups, I was in the first group and off we went. The Directors cut was crazy scary.. I got in there and started singing and all of a sudden. STOP! I nearly died! There were only two judges here and one of them had told me to not to show too much emotion on my face when I sing and told me to restart. As sleepy and freaked out as I was, I restarted... After I sang I was asked a few questions... One of the questions was what is my party trick. I couldn't think of anything! Just then, Rubix cubing came to mind... Hey I can Rubix cube, stupid stupid me.... Time for results...Yes! I'm through! With quite a few newly made friends.

We then were directed to the Rant and Rave room.. Where they make you answer questions and do funny stuff on camera! They freaking sent someone to buy a Rubix cube in the time I finished the directors cut and getting to the Rant and Rave room. Talk about being put on the spot. I had to solve it on camera, the closest feeling to death! I hadn't done this in ages! After this, we were briefed that this was the end of the day and we had to return on Monday for the TV round. We left the stadium at 17:00 on Saturday, I think.

Why Monday?? Now the stress has time to build up again!! At this point King and I were totally drained. Even though I got through, It felt like I failed and was going home. We were too tired to celebrate or do anything.

Monday, Monday, Monday.. Perfect timing for my GPS to malfunction and almost get lost in Durban.. Thanks to some directions we got there at 6:30am. Oh, we had to be there at 7. Now when I walked into the waiting room expecting loads of people. Only 60 from 1000 or so made it to the official judges. 60! 10 per group, we were  seated in 6 lines. I was placed in the 5th group and they were taking an hour per line. Enough said, I got to the judges at around 15:00. Before entering the room, I spoke to Proverb. He asked me how I'm feeling, I said I nervous but its healthy nerves!I entered the room, greeted the judges. Gareth started talking although I zoned him out cause I was looking for a chair that I need to sit on for my audition! I don't know if I cut him off to ask for a chair but I had to ask for a chair. Lol =D Sorry Gareth! I started singing and they started to smile, good sign? I hoped. After my audition Kurt Darren said he would like to see me in the next round. I don't remember much after that.. But i was through!! 3 said yes and 1 no. Randal said my voice is too nice, too clean so its not what he's looking for. Hopefully my next song is more to his liking!

When I got the audition room I pretended as though I didn't get through and got King seriously stressed out! Proverb was saying that I shouldn't worry and that I can try again next year... Then I showed them the golden ticket!! I'm going to Charlies Chocolate Factory!!

No wait, I mean Sun City...
After talking to Proverb I sleep walked my way through the rest of the proceedings! Finally got on my way home after supper at Sun Coast.

I go back to Idols on the 15th of April. If I don't make it any further it will obviously be depressing but I can be proud. Out of thousands of people I made it this far. Top 100 I think! Look at the bright side! I've never been on a plane before!
